Watchable Wildlife in Central Washington

Discover the Wildlife of the Mid-Columbia Basin with the new Watchable Wildlife Map

Mid-Columbia Fisheries Enhancement Group (MCFEG) received a Watchable Wildlife grant from the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife. As part of this project, they have partnered with Northwest Portal to create an online interactive map of watchable wildlife opportunities, including salmon spawning locations, in the Mid-Columbia region of Central Washington. The easy-to-use multilingual map will be free to users and will expand options for people to find wildlife viewing opportunities of many types in the region. The map will be supported and updated for at least five years.

The map has recreation areas, lands, trails and facilities in the region. Help us improve the map by sharing information about points of interest, good places to view wildlife, and habitat areas.

Watchable Wildlife Map

Use the filters to find a place to visit by pass, amenities or activities, search for a place by name, share a destination (search by name and then copy the URL), and open the map full frame on your phone to navigate. Coming soon, find volunteer opportunities and wildlife watching events.

Share the map or add it to your page

You can share a link to the map in English or Spanish. Show the entire map, zoom in on a specific area, or show it with specific places or types of places highlighted.

  • Set up the map the way you want to share it:

    • Zoom in on the area you want to highlight,

    • Use Search to highlight a place by name,

    • Use the filters to highlight places by type of wildlife viewing or type of facility.

  • Copy the url and share it.

  • Embed the map on your page. Here is the code that will work for Squarespace and many other web platforms. Just replace the url text with the url you copied for the map.
